© copyright 2011 Ifeoma Okwor has successfully won the “Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) - 2011  Doctoral Research Award” valued at $35,000 for up to 3 years, and also the ”Deer Lodge  Hospital Staff Association Memorial Fund -  Personal Award” valued at $1000. Forough Khadem has received the “University of Manitoba - Faculty of Graduate Studies -  International Graduate Student Scholarship (IGSS)” valued at $4000.  Zhirong Mou received the “Manitoba Health Research Council (MHRC) - Travel Award” valued  at $1500 to attend the 15th Annual Woods Hole Immunoparasitology Meeting in April. Emeka Okeke received the “Manitoba Institute of Child Health (MICH) - Travel Award” valued at  $1000, to attend the 24th Canadian Society for Immunology Meeting in April 2011. Ifeoma Okwor was the number one recipient of the “24th Canadian Society for Immunology  (CSI) - Travel Award” (Miltenyi Award), valued at $1,000. Forough Khadem and Ifeoma Okwor both received the “University of Manitoba - Faculty of  Graduate Studies - Travel Award” valued at $500 to attend the 24th Canadian Society for  Immunology Meeting in April 2011. Forough Khadem won the “University of Manitoba - Dean of Medicine - Travel Award’  and also  the ”Deer Lodge Hospital Staff Association Memorial Fund - Travel Award” each valued at $500, to attend the 24th Canadian Society for Immunology Meeting in April 2011. Our first PhD student, Dr. Dong Liu, defended his PhD Thesis entitled "Regulation of Anti-  Leishmania Immunity by host and parasite molecules"  on Tuesday March 15th, 2011. Our lab members (Mou Z., Jia P., Kuriakose S., Khadem F. and Uzonna J.E.) recently  published their work (Interleukin-17-mediated control of parasitemia in experimental  Trypanosoma congolense infection in mice) in Infection and Immunity, 78(12):5271-9.
